2018

Foundation Year

GMC Anantnag was established as part of the central/state initiative to increase medical education capacity in underserved districts. The project at Dialgam marked the beginning of a transformative journey for South Kashmir's healthcare landscape.

May 29, 2019

Letter of Permission Granted

The Board of Governors issued the Letter of Permission, enabling the first MBBS intake of 100 students for the 2019-20 academic year. Simultaneously, the Government College of Nursing & Paramedical Sciences was established, expanding access to trained health workers.

2020-2021

Pandemic Leadership & DNB Launch

GMC Anantnag became the first medical college outside Srinagar to secure ICMR permissions for RT-PCR testing, processing hundreds of thousands of samples. DNB accreditation began with Anaesthesiology, marking the start of postgraduate training programs.

May 2022

KASOCON-2022 Hosted

Successfully hosted the North Zone Surgical Oncology Conference (KASOCON-2022), signaling the college's growing academic engagement and establishing its reputation as a center for medical education and research.

July 2023

First Pacemaker Implantations

The Department of Medicine achieved a regional milestone by performing the first dual-chamber pacemaker implantations in South Kashmir, marking GMC Anantnag's emergence as a center for advanced cardiac care.

December 26, 2024

Advanced Endoscopic Workstation

Became the first among newer medical colleges in J&K to install a state-of-the-art endoscopic gastro/bronchoscopy workstation, enhancing diagnostic capabilities and patient care standards. Additional DNB seats were also approved during this year.

February 20, 2025

Cardiac Catheterization Lab Inaugurated

The Health Minister inaugurated our advanced Cath Lab, making GMC Anantnag the first among new medical colleges to offer interventional cardiology procedures. This milestone brings emergency cardiac care closer to the people of South Kashmir.

Established the first RT-PCR testing facility outside Srinagar district, processing hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 samples and serving as a regional diagnostic hub during the pandemic.

Rapid progression from basic MBBS teaching to hosting major conferences like KASOCON-2022, with continuous expansion of DNB seats and postgraduate programs.

Clinical Innovation

Pioneered advanced cardiac procedures in South Kashmir with pacemaker implantations and the region's first Cath Lab among new medical colleges, bringing life-saving interventions closer to patients.

Community Impact

Established Rural Health Training Centres in Sagam & Kokernag and Urban Health Training Centre in Brakpora, extending healthcare access and medical education to underserved communities.

Advanced Technology

First among newer J&K medical colleges to install state-of-the-art endoscopic and bronchoscopy workstations, setting new standards for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Regional Recognition
