Maternity & Child Care Hospital
Government Medical College, Anantnag
About the Hospital
The Maternity & Child Care Hospital (MCCH), Anantnag — an associated hospital of Government Medical College, Anantnag (GMC Anantnag) — has a significant history and a broad service mandate in the southern Kashmir region.
The hospital was established in 1956 in the Sherbagh locality, Anantnag. Over time, its role expanded, and it now renders services to the whole of South Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian — as well as adjacent areas of the Pir Panjal range.
As part of Associated Hospital of GMC Anantnag, MCCH has been upgraded to provide advanced maternity, neonatal and paediatric care.
Two departments are working in this hospital viz; Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Post graduate Department of Pediatrics.
More recently (2025) the government allocated funds (₹ 86 crore) for establishing a 250-bed MCCH in South Kashmir's Anantnag, signalling intent to expand and modernize the facility.
